| Hello again Karin,
Just been studying the information above. Well that's Frederick Ernest of Islington done and dusted then!! Yes - they all look possibles, don't they? So if the Annie in Durham, born Monmouth, then back in Monmouth married to Alfred Smith is the correct one - that might indicate Frederick was born in either Durham or Monmouth, would it?
Whereabouts are the following.... are they together on the 1901 Census, & does Frederick's age fit in OK?...............| Quote: | | 5) The three brothers James, Albert and Frederick at Ricling. |
And about your dream!! wow that's lovely Karin!| Quote: | | I would like to take it as a promise that I will find him. | I really hope so Karin, A few of us have been having a discussion about times when we have had "unexplained intuitive feelings or experiences" that seem to help us feel closer to our ancestors!! The discussion is on Special Permissions Usergroup Board - Topic is >> "Spooky Genes" >>
See ya soon |

| Hi Carole and team,
I love to hear from you, thank you so much once again for the e-mail received. I is very cold over here today although the sun is shining. Time for a hot cup of coffee.
Sorry Carole, I made a mistake regarding the brothers in Rickling. Only Frederick and Alfred are Smith - James had another surname. I have found an FE Smith in the Boer War with the Kimberley Volunteers. Now I have another problem and that is that the Kimberley Volunteers inlistment forms are not held at KEW. When on earth will all the obsticales be removed out of my way!!!
Well, I must tell you I have enjoyed the "Spooky Genes". You guys are very brave!! I love the little poem of Daz, it is absolutely beautiful, thanks Daz.
Do you have any quotes on Family, genealogy or grandfathes? I have some that I can share if you want.
To all of you have a great day,
Until next time
Karin. |

Great!! Karin, I've copied this quote from your last message to a new Topic in Social Club - Chit-chat - & replied to you there......... Link >> Share your genealogy quotes, quips & poems >>
Karin, In case you're wondering why this "Smith. Frederick Ernest..." Topic has suddenly shrunk from about 10 pages to 7 pages - it's because I've just been having another tidy up. (you know what I'm like with my tidy-up sessions every so often!! ) Page 1 is mostly now all your own posts with several of mine & other moderators' posts deleted, but copies of those quoted inside your posties. But the topic is still labelled as "hot"
Now back to Frederick Ernest........... Haa haaa - You did make me laugh with this, Karin..............
| Quote: | | When on earth will all the obsticales be removed out of my way!!! | I know the feeling Karin!! well, I suppose no-one ever promised us that tracing our families' history records was ever going to be an easy ride. But you're doing very well, I think!!
Our member earth2smiths (Maureen) posted a link on another one of our boards some time ago, to this wonderful site - under ongoing compilation by Kevin Asplin........ & there is an email link for contacting Kevin. He might be able to advise you where the original records are held. This is his site............. >> The Asplin Military History Resources >> Loads of info & data on that site to explore, but on the home-page (link above)scroll down and see ............| Quote: | | 3. Extracted details of name, number and unit of the Cavalry who were awarded the Queens South Africa Medal (for the Boer War of 1899-1902). This is extracted from a complete text listing of the details of the Cavalry and includes all clasp information and casualty status as well as other details found on original medal rolls. This is available from ..................... | Then on the Index below that, click on "S-U" - names are in alphabetical order - scroll down to the Smiths & the following is included. I wonder if this is your Frederick??.............
3493 Sergeant Smith F.E. 13th Hussars ________________________________________
Karin, did you ever check out the following site that mattycat once told us about? some notes from an earlier post...........
| Quote: | Link: >> The Register of the Second Anglo-BoerWar 1899-1902 >> ...... You can register and search for free ....... discovered 3 servicemen named F.E. Smith indexed as follows.........
Surname Initials Rank Number Unit Information Smith FE Trooper 35699 Imperial Yeomanry MR(medal roll) Smith FE Private 75 Queensland Mounted Infantry MR(medal roll) Smith FE Sergeant Royal Army Medical Corps L(reference)
That's all you can get from the index - but it seems you can pay to download the records.................. |
Could this Sergeant F.E. Smith mentioned on both those sites be your Frederick Ernest?
Good Luck! & Bye for now, Carole
PS: for future reference - both of the above site's links are now listed in our "Links Cabinet" at http://www.smithfamilies.org.uk/links/all.ikml Click on the drop-down menu & select......... "J) Military Records & War Memorials" & click "go" Other sites included there might also be useful. Talk soon |
