What a bummer, another month of school and now is the best weather of the year. shrug

Our school year is typically the first week in September until early to mid Jun. Ending dates vary due to the number of days missed due to snow. School districts may vary by a few days one-way or another depending on local practices. Maryland districts usually start a week before Virginia districts. Some districts allow more time off at Christmas or spring break but they all have to meet a minimum number of days in session as federally mandated.

My wife, in her second career, was a 3rd grade teacher. The school she worked at was in a pilot program for year round school. This schedule provided two 2 and two 3 week breaks during the year; Christmas, Easter, July and October – a break every 8-weeks. The number of school days was the same as at traditional schools but the vacation days were repackaged to be more consistent throughout the year. Most people liked the scheduled – even the kids.

Hiya Don,

I think our schools' holidays are very similar to yours really, apart from the different dates for the Summer, and ours have 6 weeks - about mid-July to early or mid-September. They have 2 weeks x 2 for Christmas and Easter, and 1 week every half term, as well as the odd days for such like as May Day, or Teacher's training days.

I think its 2 weeks now before our schools break up - in my District at least - Blackburn with Darwen in Lancs - it'll be about 17th July.
